Rangers have announced a new three-year contract for highly-rated former Leicester City youth Johnly Yfeko.

Rangers academy director Zeb Jacobs says Rangers are “delighted” over the new contract, with the Gers “really excited” about the potential of Johnly Yfeko at the club.

Jacobs has also urged Yfeko, who spent time in the Leicester City youth set up prior to joining Rangers in January 2022, to continue working hard after committing to Ibrox until the summer of 2026.

“We are delighted that Johnly has extended his contract at Rangers,” said Zeb Jacobs.

“It is recognition of his development since joining the club, and his recent experience with the first-team is testament to his hard work, focus and dedication.

“It’s a long road ahead, with different obstacles and challenges that he needs to overcome, but we are really excited by his potential and look forward to his continuous growth both on and off the pitch.”

Johnly Yfeko signs new three-year contract at Rangers

Making his first-team debut for Rangers in the League Cup win over Greenock Morton earlier in the season, the new contract is the next step for Johnly Yfeko in Glasgow.

Handed that debut by Michael Beale, the former Rangers manager was also glowing of Yfeko after an impressive series of showings in pre-season.

As Rangers reportedly hunted for a new defender, Michael Beale claimed that Johnly Yfeko had given him “something to think about” before giving him the top team debut a month later.

Having only just signed a deal at the club in April last year, it’s a sign of the progress made the by defender and given Rangers have tied him down for three years it’s a sign of the belief the club have in the 20-year-old.

The focus will now be on Johnly Yfeko to grow at Rangers with the player set to be 23-years-old but the time the contract runs its course.

By then, the club will know if Johnly Yfeko is equipped to follow in the footsteps of another former Leicester City youth who didn’t do too badly in Glasgow.

Speaking of Calvin Bassey, the former Rangers defender is now turning out in the Premier League and Johnly Yfeko might take direct inspiration from the former Ajax star’s career trajectory.
