The international break handed the vast majority of the Rangers B team squad a big chance to impress in front of Steven Gerrard and Ross Wilson.

A number of Gers starlets are away on youth international duty, with three featuring for Northern Ireland U19s earlier this week.

However, plenty of top young prospects, like Tony Weston and Charlie McCann, remained with Rangers.

On Tuesday, all the non-international B team players trained with the non-international first-team stars at Auchenhowie, and a RangersTV video showed that both Gerrard and Wilson were watching the session closely.

As well as Weston and McCann, the likes of Robbie Fraser, Kane Ritchie-Hosler and Juan Alegria could be spotted mixing with Connor Goldson, James Tavernier and Scott Wright as the players warmed up before getting stuck into drills and mini games.

The training session will have given all the B team players in attendance the chance to learn from senior players, while for the older and most ambitious members of David McCallum’s group, it was also a chance to show that they belong at that level.

Competitive first-team minutes are unlikely for any of the B team players this season.

However, Gerrard has left the door open for 19-year-old McCann to progress to the first-team squad if he impresses in the Lowland League and the ex-Man United youth has certainly hit the ground running after joining on a three-year deal in July.

Meanwhile, a Rangers loanee notched an assist in a WCQ hammering after receiving an international recall.
