Graeme Murty wasn’t a happy man when speaking to RangersTV, on Monday.
His comments came after an SPFL Reserve League fixture between the second strings of Rangers and Partick Thistle at Lesser Hampden.
The Gers ran out 5-2 winners, ensuring they stay within touching distance of table topping Celtic.
A brace from Joshua McPake and goals from Matthew Shiels and Liam Burt had Rangers 4-0 up and cruising.
However, while Dapo Mebude was to pop up with a late fifth, they let a clean sheet slip, conceding twice in the last half an hour.
Coach left disappointed
“I’ve just told the players it wasn’t good enough”, Murty told RangersTV after the game.
“I thought that there was some really good bits, but they didn’t push themselves hard enough to maintain our standards and continue to play at that level.”

“Because, when we played quickly and played sharp and showed that quality and that clarity of purpose, we were good.”
“But, (we were) too happy to drift off that high standard and fall below it. I thought we got what we deserved in the second half.”
The Reserves boss was visibly annoyed by what he had seen.
It just goes to show the emphasis being put on performance levels within the academy.

There aren’t too many clubs where a 5-2 win would be treated with such distain.
However, at Rangers, the coaches are clearly trying to instil values into the players that go beyond scorelines.
It’s great to see another resounding win, but also, to witness just how high the standards are within the development setup.
No one’s getting ahead of themselves , that’s for sure.
