Rangers have reached an agreement with a defender who has committed the next three years of his playing career to them.

While signing new players is important, it is equally essential to retain the best talents at the first-team as well as the youth level.

Derek McInnes has a track record of promoting promising youngsters to the senior setup, and the Rangers fans would want him to do that at Ibrox as well.

Corey Ngwenya signs three-year contract at Rangers

Corey Ngwenya has put pen to paper on his first professional contract, signing a three-year deal with the Light Blues, the club announced on Thursday.

The young defender has come up the ranks at Ibrox and played a key role in guiding the Under-17s to the CAS Elite League title last season.

The 15-year-old was born in Scotland and has represented his country at the youth level already at the Under-15s level.

If Rangers are to sell Thelo Aasgaard, how much should he be sold for?

However, he is eligible to play for Malawi and Trinidad & Tobago in the future due to his family heritage.

Despite being a defender, he has been lauded for his attacking ability as well, so he could develop into a more advanced player in the next few years.

He is the younger brother of Kieran Ngwenya, who plays for Dunfermline Athletic.

Kieran has already represented both Malawi as well as Trinidad & Tobago at the senior international level.
