Rangers tie Josh Gentles down to a new contract

Having gone out on loan a little over a month ago, the Ibrox outfit have tied down the 18-year-old to a new contract.

Previously, his deal at the club was running out at the end of the season, but the Gers did not want to lose him this summer.

Thus, they ensured that he would sign a new deal at the club until the end of the 2026/27 season, with the option to extend it by another year.

On Saturday afternoon, they made the news official, releasing a statement on the club website.

Ahead of the 2026/27 season, Danny Rohl and his coaching staff will decide what the best plan of action is for the Wales Under-19 forward.

He has already featured for the first team in pre-season matches against Middlesbrough and Club Brugge, back when Russell Martin was the manager.

Why Danny Rohl is very likely to include Gentles in pre-season training

Gentles already showed at the start of the current season why he’s capable of playing against senior players and being part of the first team.

As he was part of Martin’s training squad, there is a high likelihood that Rohl includes him as well.

The Welsh striker fits the German’s style of play and there is a possibility that he would want him to be a regular part of first-team training from next season.

Rohl likes playing a high-energy brand of football that involves counter pressing, which is perfect for Gentles, who is known to be energetic and receptive to instructions passed on by the coaches.

As he has already trained with a lot of the first-team players, they know his game well and vice versa, and a few more months of regular first-team football this season will equip him to deal with the step up in quality.
