Rangers B team boss David McCallum has hailed the young Gers after recording a comfortable 5-1 win ofer Gretna yesterday, as they responded to being challenged to be more clinical with a devastating display in front of goal.
Goals from Juan Alegria, Kane Ritchie-Hosler, Ross McCausland, Greig Allen and Tony Weston sealed the three points for the Colts and McCallum was impressed with what he saw from his side in the Borders.
The Rangers B boss singled out Kane Ritchie-Hosler for praise having filled in a number of roles in recent weeks and getting himself among the goals at Raydale Park in a man-of-the-match performance.
“I really enjoyed that performance,” McCallum told Rangers TV. “I said to them at half time that despite the score being 1-1 I thought we created a lot of chances and variation in our forward play – we had a lot of variation, but we were unfortunate to not get the goals after the positive flow that we had. The message at half time was quite simple, more of the same and to believe and trust yourself to get the second. Credit to the boys, they did that, and they were clinical in the second half.
“The fact that there were five different goal scorers, but also really good goals at the same time. We’re particularly pleased with Greig Allen with his first goal for the B Team. I also thought that the combination of the last goal was excellent.
“We’ve asked Kane [Ritchie-Hosler] to do quite a bit over recent weeks in terms of different positions, but I think what is really clear is that he is a very talented football player, he’s a threat even as a full back player. We’re pleased for him today, I thought he was probably just our best player to put on a strong performance, and it was excellent for him to get a goal as well.”
The win leaves Rangers three points off Celtic and Spartans, having games in hand on both, in second place as they looks to finish as runners up to runaway leaders Bonnyrigg Rose Athletic.
