Rangers Academy star Nathan Young-Coombes has spoken out about his switch from Chelsea, as quoted by the Evening Times.
The teenage forward was presented as a Ger on 1 February and has impressed many fans so far.
He was an integral part of the U17s who became the first British side to win the prestigious Alkass Cup in Qatar.
Furthermore, he is part of the team who have reached the Scottish Youth Cup final.
Young-Coombes helped secure a Hampden date with a goal against Aberdeen in the last four.
“Down south, when I was at Chelsea, you get told that Chelsea is the best Academy, it is this, it is that,” said the 16-year-old talent, as quoted by the Evening Times. “But when you look here and compare the two, I think ‘wow, if Chelsea really think they are the best, what are Rangers at the moment?’
“It is a step ahead and the thing that really impresses me the most is that Rangers are always looking to improve. It is not about thinking they are better than anyone else, it is how can we be better?”
Gerrard keeping tabs
Furthermore, Young-Coombes revealed he has had contact with Steven Gerrard.
“I have spoken to him [Gerrard] a couple of times and that means a lot because, at Chelsea, you wouldn’t even see the first team manager at all”, he continued.
“You wouldn’t see any of the first team players, everything is so closed off and it is like a separate world. Here, the Academy is linked to the first team so you will see the players, the coaches and the manager.”
Young-Coombes is clearly loving life in Glasgow and is producing on the pitch.
Chelsea has a reputation for producing players and then failing to give them a chance.
Silverware is clearly the short-term priority for Rangers too. However, with the success throughout the club at youth level this season, the Gers should be keen to take a different, more sustainable path whenever they can.
