Charlie Lindsay scooped both the MVP and top goalscorer awards but Rangers are no longer reigning Alkass Cup champions after Real Madrid won the 2020 edition [Alkass International Cup Twitter].
The Young Gers gave a strong account of themselves over the past two weeks in Doha but weren’t quite able to match the heroics of the squad who won the cup in 2019.
Following a win and a draw during the group stages, Rangers lost out to the Mohammed VI Academy of Morocco in the knockouts. Showing character in the face of disappointment, they then recorded wins over Kashiwa Reysol and Aspire Academy to secure a fifth-place finish.

Real Madrid succeded the Gers as champions by destroying Inter Milan 5-0 in the final to cap a hugely impressive showing throughout the tournament.

The main positive from this year’s trip has to be the individual performances of Charlie Lindsay.
He doesn’t even turn 16 until next month, but he was the standout player, not only in Light Blue but across the whole tournament.
Following in the footsteps of Kai Kennedy, he earned the Alkass Cup MVP award. With a tally of six, he was also the top goalscorer, sharing the accolade with Zenit St Petersburg’s Igor Kozlov.

It’s an incredible double win for Lindsay considering the calibre of the clubs on show in Doha.
With Real, Inter and PSG making up the top three, the fact that the Northern Irish teenager was the standout individual all whilst playing up an age group, shows he’s a remarkable talent and a potential future Ibrox star.
