Hibernian have announced via a statement on their website, that they will not be participating in the SPFL Reserve League next season.
“This was not a decision we took lightly as a club and we are committed to playing our part in ensuring that youth development in Scotland is in the best possible condition it can be”, Hibs Head of Football Operations, George Craig, told the club’s website.
“However, first and foremost, our responsibility is to Hibernian and our supporters.
“We are passionate about the work done within the Hibernian Academy and are proud of our record in producing talented young professionals who have gone on to make a real impact in the Scottish game.
“If we wish to constantly improve standards across the board then it stands to reason that we have to constantly re-evaluate what we do, and there are some concerns about the Reserve League setup as it is.”

Craig goes on to state that head coach, Paul Heckingbottom and his assistant Robbie Stockdale, are both in support of the move.
These comments show an agreement in thinking with Rangers. Particularly, with the Head of Academy at Ibrox, Craig Mulholland.
As quoted by the Scotsman earlier this month, he also expressed concerns about the Reserve League format.

Instead, he called for the return of a Colts system, maintaining it would provide a better foundation for the club’s young talent.
Accordingly, the Gers are also set to pull out of the competition for 2019/20.
That’s despite Graeme Murty’s side being crowned champions this season.
