Exciting new arrival Aaron Cervantes was named on the bench for a Rangers youth match against Kilmarnock on Friday.

The initial plan was for Cervantes to remain with OCSC until January before he headed out on loan to a club in Europe.

However, that plan was scuppered by the pandemic and instead, he made his way to Glasgow late last month to join up with his new teammates.

Two weeks on from his arrival, he was named in his first matchday squad as a Rangers player, making the bench for the U18s’ opening league fixture against Killie at the Rangers Training Centre on Friday afternoon.

17-year-old Jack McConnell started ahead of him between the sticks.

Cervantes is a highly rated young keeper who was OCSC’s first-ever professional player, while he’s also the first player the Gers have signed from their partner club since the relationship was struck in December 2019.

He made six appearances in the USL Championship last season, keeping two clean sheets.

Meanwhile, a Rangers loanee who Cervantes played alongside in California last season is finally in line to make his Premiership debut, six months after heading out of Ibrox for a second time.
