Rangers B team took on Dundee yesterday with a few familiar faces in the starting XI with one that might only be know to those of a Northern Irish persuasion.

Kemar Roofe must’ve felt like the coach joining in with the kids during training as he looked to prove to Gers boss Philippe Clement that he can offer something in the title race.

At the other end of his career is Blaine McClure, a player who has just made his debut for Rangers B team and who already has celebrity backing.

Blaine McClure makes Rangers B team debut

As the latest footballer to make the journey from Linfield to Rangers, McClure already has the perfect role model to follow in Ross McCausland.

McCausland made exactly the same journey as a fresh-faced 16-year old and has made the transition into first-team football and playing at Ibrox in front of 50,000 fans look easy.

That the 20-year old was miles out of the picture in the B team when the season kicked-off says it all about his work rate and determination to impress on the training ground.

McClure couldn’t have anyone better looking out for him:

“I’ve enjoyed it. It’s been very good and I’ve settled in very well.

“I think now I just need to strive and push on to try and achieve my goals.

“Ross McCausland is a big inspiration to me. He was very good to me when I first came over; welcoming me to the club as a new boy considering he has been here for a few years.

“He has taken me under his wing and guided me the right way.”

It’s great to hear stories like this where McCausland has clearly gone above and beyond to help his compatriot when he will have been in the middle of a mentally and physically challenging time himself.

McClure has been a regular for the Under-18s this season but it is a sign of the progress that he has been making that David McCallum saw fit to promote him.

As former world champion boxer Carl Frampton posted on X, Blaine McClure is “living the dream” even if it is only for the Rangers B team – for the moment, at least.
