Rangers Predicted XI vs St Johnstone

Rangers take on St Johnstone at Ibrox on Wednesday night in their 27th Premiership fixture of the 2020/21 season.

The Gers are very much in the home straight in terms of their quest for a 55th top-flight title and they’ll be looking to restore their 23-point lead at the top of the table following Celtic’s 4-0 win at Kilmarnock on Tuesday.

St Johnstone are unbeaten in seven matches in all competitions, though, so the hosts will need to produce a good performance if they are to maintain their 100% record at Ibrox.

Alfredo Morelos is suspended for the fixture, while Scott Arfield and Nikola Katic are out injured.

However, Steven Gerrard still has plenty of options and is likely to name a strong side.

Allan McGregor has started the last 12 Premiership fixtures in goal and is set to retain his place, while the manager could name an unchanged back four of James Tavernier, Connor Goldson, Filip Helander and Borna Barisic.

A tactical tweak could be made in the middle of the park, after it proved so effective in the recent 5-0 win over Ross County, with two central midfielders deployed rather than the usual bank of three.

Should that be the case, Glen Kamara could drop to the bench for his first rest since November with Steven Davis and Ryan Jack getting the nod.

Joe Aribo may then be given a more advanced central role, with joint-top Premiership assist provider Ianis Hagi returning to the right inside forward berth.

Ryan Kent is likely to make his 26th league start of the campaign on the left, with Kemar Roofe returning to lead the line.
