Rangers Women have thrashed Hearts 5-0 this afternoon as they continue their push for a historic league title to end Glasgow City’s long stranglehold on the title.
The Gers maintained their two-point lead at the top of the table over City, as they romped to a comfortable win over the Jambos.
A first-half double from Jane Ross and Demi Vance’s goal had Malky Thomson’s side 3-0 up at the break before Lizzie Arnot’s penalty and a strike from Chelsea Cornet rounded off the win.
Glasgow City have been champions since 2007 but could lost their title this season as Rangers’ recent investment in the Girls and Women’s teams start to really pay off.
The Gers took the lead with less than 15 minutes played through Vance before Ross doubled the lead just two minutes later.
It took fewer than ten minutes after that for Ross to grab her second of the afternoon as Rangers controlled proceedings at Oriam.
A 72nd-minute foul on Megan Bell won the Gers a penalty, which Arnot calmly rolled home before Cornet’s stunning effort late on capped off an excellent afternoon.
The Gers face Glasgow City in a few weeks time in what is sure to be a massive match for both sides.
If Rangers Women can maintain their current form, it is hard to see past them for the title and a massive landmark for the club, having never been champions of Scotland in the woman’s game yet.
