Rangers run riot in 9-0 SWPL1 win over Motherwell as duo bag hat-tricks

Rangers Women have made an excellent start to the SWPL1 season so far under Malky Thomson – and the Gers absolutely blew Motherwell away this afternoon with a 9-0 win at the Rangers Football Centre.

The Light Blues took 15 minutes to open the scoring, Kirsty Howat getting the Gers off the mark, before the floodgates opened and Rangers racked up a massive win over the Fir Park side.

It was 2-0 just nine minutes later as Lizzie Arnot hit the the first of three goals before half time for the Scotland international, with Megan Bell hitting Rangers’ third of the afternoon.

Arnot completed her hat-trick with two goals in two minutes before the break, the Gers taking a commanding 5-0 lead in at half time.

Six minutes after the restart, it was 6-0 as Howat scored her second of the afternoon before completing a hat-trick of her own after 58 minutes to make it 7-0 before Daina Bourma added an eighth with just over 20 minutes left.

The rout was completed in the 85th minute as Bala Devi made it nine without reply to boost the Gers’ goal difference as they chase down league leaders Glasgow City.

The result leaves Rangers three points behind City after six games, with the Old Firm defeat by Celtic the only blemish so far for the Gers.
