Rangers' return to action this weekend to be shown live in historic SWPL push

Rangers return to SWPL1 action this weekend as they aim to win a historic league title and end Glasgow City’s dominance of the domestic game over the last 15 years – and their first game back against Hearts will be broadcast live on Sunday afternoon.

Malky Thompson’s side currently sit top of the table on goal difference after thrashing Glasgow City before the season was suspended due to Covid restrictions.

BBC Sport Scotland will show the full game live as the Gers look to open up a lead at the top of the table and build on inflicting the biggestd lost Glasgow City have suffered in the modern SWPL era.

Shortly before the season was called to a halt, Rangers star Lizzie Arnot had been named Player of the Month after she scored a hat-trick and provided two assists as Rangers thrashed Motherwell 9-0 before following it up with another goal in the 5-0 win over Glasgow City.

With eighteen points from their opening seven games, the Gers are in an excellent position to push on and launch a sustained challenge to City’s long-time position as the best women’s football in Scotland has to offer.

After the men’s side ended Celtic’s stranglehold on the Premiership earlier this month, hopefully there is a double celebration at the club later this year.

Meanwhile, one Rangers star’s World Cup hopes have been boosted after a second consecutive impressive international display.
