Rangers have announced that 2021/22 Women’s Player of the Year Nicola Docherty has signed a two-year extension to her contract at Ibrox.
The Scotland star was an integral part of Malky Thomson’s side as they lifted the SWPL1 title this season and her excellent performances have been rewarded with a new deal.
The lifelong Rangers fan was buzzing to get a new contract done, as she admitted it was “massive” for her so have extended her stay at the club, telling Rangers TV: “I am delighted to get it over the line.
“It is a club that I have supported my whole life and to say that I have signed an extra two years at the club is massive for me and obviously my family.
“The game has developed so much, from my first time with the club to where we are now and the steps the club has taken has been massive and you can really see that in our play and the way we handled this season.”
Women’s head coach Malky Thomson is looking forward to building on the success of this season as he welcomed Nic’s extension, adding: “Nicola has been a hugely important player for us and I am delighted she has signed this contract extension. Her consistent performances, experience and defensive and attacking qualities were important for us in our league winning campaign and we now look to continue to build on that next season.”
Dream come true for Docherty after having to leave Rangers early in career
Docherty’s stunning form and success is a dream come true for the Falkirk-born Gers star, having had to leave the club earlier in her career.
Nic left Rangers in 2012 to join Glasgow City before returning to the Gers in 2020 and never looking back.
With the prospect of Champions League football next season, it could still get even better for Docherty.
