Rangers have confirmed that Dutch midfielder Tessel Middag has signed a two-year extension to her contract ahead of the new season and the Gers’ Women’s Champions League debut.
Middag, who joined Rangers from Fiorentina after stints with West Ham, Man City, Ajax and ADO Den Haag, made 30 appearances in her maiden campaign at the club and will remain with the Light Blues until 2024.
Middag expressed her delight at her new deal after playing her part in last season’s Invincible SWPL1 triumph as she said she was thankful for the ‘confidence’ shown in her by head coach Malky Thomson and his staff.
“I am delighted, I am happy to be here and to be able to continue to enjoy my football,” Middag said [Rangers TV].
“I feel we are surrounded by great people so that made it an easy decision to stay longer and I’d like to thank the club and the staff for their confidence in me.”
Malky Thomson hails Middag’s importance to Rangers’ Invincibles
Thomson is looking forward to continuing to work with the 44-times capped Dutch international this season as Rangers look forward to facing Hungarian champions Ferencvaros in the first round of the Women’s Champion’s League.
“We are delighted that Tess has signed a contract extension with the club and that she will remain part of our squad next season. Not only on the pitch, but every day at training Tess’ influence and experience has a positive impact on the squad.
“She played an important part of our squad last campaign making 30 appearances and I’m looking forward to continuing to work with her this season.”
