Rangers boss hails Ibrox stars after historic Invincible SWPL title success

Rangers head coach Malky Thomson has paid tribute to his side after they wrote their names into the history books with a 3-1 win over Celtic yesterday to end the season as Invincible SWPL1 champions.

The Light Blues sealed the title last weekend with a win over long-standing champions Glasgow City to wrestle the league crown away from them and secure Rangers’ first women’s title.

Thomson praised his players for not letting their effort levels drop in yesterday’s game, despite having already won the title, as he now turns his focus to next season and a title defence.

“I can’t believe the way they have gone about it, to come here today knowing that they had won the championship they never changed,” Thomson told Rangers TV.

“That is the reason why they have won it because they have had the same approach to every single game so credit goes massively to the players.

“We analyse the opposition and we put a game plan together and we then go and deliver that to the players and they have been great. The players take the time to go and do the individual stuff themselves and you can see the benefit of it.

“Anything you do in life, if you put time and effort into it, that’s the results you get so we must do it again next season – that’s the big bit for us.

“It was a group effort this season but one thing we spoke about before the game and all through the season was working for each other.”
