The Scottish Sun reports that Queen’s Park and Kelty Hearts are battling it out to sign former Rangers goalkeeper, Cammy Bell.

The 33-year-old had been plying his trade in League One with Falkirk.

However, injury saw him drop out of the side and he failed to regain his place under the new management team of Lee Miller and David McCracken, which lead to the termination of his contract.

As a free agent, rather than being stuck on the sidelines, he would have the ability to join a new club even after the January window.

Currently, it looks to be a two-horse race.

It’s suggested that Queen’s Park are in ‘pole position’ after Bell watched their fourth-tier weekend clash against Cowdenbeath. The Spiders are currently managed by Ray McKinnon.

That could prove to be a big factor, given that the ex-Gers stopper was signed by McKinnon at both Dundee United and Falkirk.

However, Barry Ferguson’s Kelty Hearts are said to be providing competition. Kelty are currently top of the Lowland League and believe adding Bell would help them consolidate their position.

Verdict

Bell has played very little first-team football since leaving Dundee United for Kilmarnock in 2017, performing backup duties at several clubs in the interim.

He’s now dropping through the leagues, but at 33, he’s surely got plenty more to offer.

Clearly, Kelty are an ambitious junior club who are achieving success at their level under Ferguson. However, Queen’s Park’s SPFL status and the presence of McKinnon surely makes them the obvious choice for the former Ger.

Bell’s next club will be the eleventh of his career.
