Former Rangers striker Kenny Miller thinks his old club should raid Everton for Ellis Simms after being impressed by the youngster while on loan at Hearts – and insists he would score goals in Gio van Bronckhorst’s side.
The 21-year-old caught the eye at Tynecastle, with Hearts boss Robbie Neilson wanting him back for next season, and Miller picked Simms as the one player playing in the Scottish Premiership that he thinks could make a contribution at Ibrox.
However, Miller concedes that the Toffees may not want to sell Simms this summer as the former Ibrox star labelled the striker “as close to Morelos as you’ll get.”
“The one player in Scotland I’d look at for Rangers is Simms,” Miller said [Sunday Mail].
I really like the look of him. When you see the trouble Rangers had with strikers towards the end of the season, it’s something I’d consider.
“I’m sure the kid will have a few suitors down in England.
“But I’d be surprised if Everton sold him, unless the money was right. It would probably be another loan move.
“When you look at what he could bring and the way he plays, he might be as close to a Morelos as you’re going to get.
“He’s not Alfredo Morelos, let’s make that clear. He would have a lot to prove before you put him in that bracket.
“But the physicality he’s got, the running power and the quality of goals he’s scored in that short period at Hearts – he’s someone I think could be interesting.
“At the age he’s at, playing in that Rangers team – I think he could score goals.”
Simms has impressed for Hearts – but Rangers transfer seems unlikely for Everton ace
While Miller seems convinced Simms could make an impact at Rangers, a move to Ibrox appears unlikely.
Signing him on loan doesn’t really make much sense and any move would need to be a permanent one if Rangers are to have any interest.
Simms would make an intriguing signing for Rangers if a deal was to be worked out but he’s still got a bit to go before he’s ready to lead the line for the Gers.
