Rangers in four-way battle for former Man City defender Cameron Humphreys - report

Rangers are among a number of clubs chasing former Manchester City defender Cameron Humphreys, according to a report.

The Daily Mail claim that the Gers join Bournemouth, Sheffield United and Stoke City in tracking the former England under-19 international after he became a free agent.

The 23-year-old was most recently with Belgian side Zulte Waregem, making 28 appearances this season.

Humphreys came through Man City’s youth system, grabbing some attention as a 16-year-old when he played against Real Madrid in a pre-season game in 2015.

Rangers are likely to be in the market for a number of new defenders this summer with Connor Goldson and Leon Balogun out of contract and speculation over the future of a number of others.

John Souttar joins Gio van Bronckhorst’s side this summer after leaving Hearts and Humphreys would make an interesting addition to the squad.

While he predominantly played as a centre-back for Zulte Waregem, the Englishman can play at right-back too, potentially offering cover for skipper James Tavernier.

Rangers defensive targets may depend on others leaving Ibrox this summer

The sort of players Rangers target this summer will depend massively on who leaves over the coming weeks and months.

Selling someone like Calvin Bassey would bring in a hefty chunk of cash for Rangers to spend but it will also mean further outlay to strengthen the defence.

Getting some sort of resolution on Connor Goldson’s future – as well as Leon Balogun’s – is going to be important too as Gio gets down to work rebuilding his side.
