Rangers are reportedly tracking £1million West Brom defender Cedric Kipre this summer with the ex-Motherwell star keen to leave the Hawthorns after falling out of favour following Steve Bruce’s appointment as manager.

According to Birmingham Live, Kipre is unhappy at the Baggies and is wanted by Rangers, Norwich City and clubs from abroad – with Bruce seemingly happy to let him move on.

Kipre had started 16 times for West Brom this season before Bruce took the reins, failing to make a single appearance afterwards and he looks destined for the exit.

Rangers have reportedly been keeping tabs on Kipre since his time at Motherwell and with Connor Goldson and Leon Balogun out of contract in the summer, the Gers are likely to be in the market for defenders.

Rangers move for Kipre would be a bit underwhelming

The defender was really popular during his time at Motherwell but if he was to come to Ibrox – particularly if he was to arrive as a replacement for Connor Goldson – it would feel a bit underwhelming.

With the prospect of Champions League football next season for Rangers, there needs to be better brought in that Kipre if Goldson moves on.

If he was added as a depth option, Rangers could do worse than Kipre but it is difficult to see his arrival being any sort of improvement on the current backline.

Rangers fans won’t have fond memories of ex-Motherwell star

Rangers fans with a good memory will remember that it was Kipre who injured Ryan Jack and caused a long-term absence for the midfielder.

Jack publicly slated the then-Motherwell star, with the Rangers linchpin spending seven months on the sidelines as a result of Kipre’s tackle.

The arrival of John Souttar this summer at least fills some of the possible gap left by Goldson and Balogun’s potential exits – but losing those two and bringing Kipre and Souttar as their replacements in would be a step backwards
