Rangers and Celtic linked with Nigerian Stephen Odey, club chief comments

Rangers have reportedly held talks over a deal to sign Nigerian striker Stephen Odey, according to a report, as the Light Blues look to strengthen their squad this summer.

According to AllNigeriaSoccer, Rangers and Celtic are among the clubs interested in Odey – although the fact both Rangers and Celtic have been mentioned is a bit of a red flag.

The Nigerian outlet claims Ross Wilson has already held talks over a move with Odey’s representatives, with the striker lined up as a potential replacement for Alfredo Morelos

After the reports from Nigeria emerged, Randers’ sporting director Soren Pedersen wouldn’t deny talks had taken place, only saying that there had been no concrete offers so far.

“It is certainly not so concrete that I have an offer,” Pedersen said [Daily Record].

“That could easily happen. There are many clubs that have shown interest in him, because he is a good player. But there is nothing concrete from there.

“We’re happy with him and it’s not something where we’re saying he should be sold in this window. He has a great sporting value, so if we say yes to something, it must be both the right club and the right amount.”

Something doesn’t quite seem right on this one as Rangers get ready for pre-season

There may well be some truth to this one but having both sides of the Old Firm linked immediately casts some doubt.

Linking with both Rangers and Celtic just smacks of an agent trying to get some attention to their client to drum up more interest.

That’s not to say he won’t end up in Scotland this summer – but it seems unlikely at this point.
