Bournemouth have confirmed the signing of Rangers-linked midfielder Joe Rothwell on a four-year deal from Blackburn Rovers, ending long-running speculation over a move to Ibrox.
Rothwell had been linked with a move to Ibrox since last year, with some suggesting a deal was already done, but the Englishman has instead opted to join the Cherries.
After he graduated from Manchester United’s academy, Oxford United were Rothwell’s next port of call, making a name for himself there, before heading for Ewood Park in the summer of 2018.
Four years at Blackburn failed to return promotion back to the Premier League for Rovers and now Rotherll will try his luck in England’s top tier with Scott Parker’s side.
Rangers links with Rothwell seemed ropey from the start
With most transfer links it is always worth taking them with a big pinch of salt until they are pictured with a Rangers scarf above their head – and this was no different.
Links between Rangers and Rothwell seemed tenuous at best and there never really appeared much likelihood that he’d be Ibrox-bound.
After putting pen-to-paper on a lengthy deal at the Vitality Stadium, it’ll put an end to any talk of the midfielder being a Rangers target for a while.
