Man United, Newcastle join chase for former Rangers Academy star - report

Former Rangers Academy star Malcolm Ebiowei is wanted by a host of Premier League clubs, including Man United, Newcastle, Tottenham and Crystal Palace after bursting to prominence at Derby this season.

The ex-Ibrox kid left Rangers to join Derby last year and is out of contract next month, sparking a race for his signature as he prepares to leave the relegated Rams.

According to the Daily Mail, all four want to sign the 18-year-old attacker after being impressed by his performances for Wayne Rooney’s side as they battled to retain their place in the Championship despite a hefty points deduction caused by their administration.

Rooney was full of praise for the teen earlier this season, saying he has ‘enormous’ talent after being impressed by his performance against Coventry: ‘He has got enormous ability. He’s brave, he’s not afraid to take players on, get tackled, and make mistakes.

‘I thought he was excellent all game. He was the best player on the pitch. It is one of the best performances I have seen from a young player consistently for 90 minutes in a long time and he deserves that because he’s worked so hard. His attitude is incredible and he’s an exciting young player.’

Rangers left rueing one that got away as Premier League beckons for Ebiowei

Rangers will be left disappointed at missing out on Ebiowei’s rise to prominence after leaving the Light Blues last year.

After struggling to break into the B team, Ebiowei returned to England and his quickly made the most of his opportunity at Derby under Wayne Rooney.

A move to the likes of Man United or Newcastle would be a massive step forward for him and, hopefully, he can continue to impress wherever he ends up.
