Late on Monday afternoon, Rangers announced the mutual termination of Graham Dorrans’ contract.

The midfielder had been tied to Ibrox until the summer of 2020, but he is no longer a Ger.

The development follows hot on the heels of a Daily Record report which claims Kilmarnock are close to signing the 32-year-old midfielder on a permanent deal.

Dorrans is a 12-cap Scottish international with several years of Premier League experience. Yet, injuries plagued his two years at Ibrox.

He featured just three times under Steven Gerrard during the manager’s first campaign, before a knee problem ruled him out of contention.

He returned to fitness some time ago, but after the recruitment of several new midfielders over the last two windows, the manager deemed him surplus to requirements. Excluded from the first-team setup, Dorrans has turned out multiple times for the Development XI, while waiting for a suitable offer.

It appears Kilmarnock came with just that and that their interest prompted the contract termination.

This represents a boost for Rangers, as they shift a fringe player off the books.

Fans react as Graham Dorrans’ Rangers contract terminated

Some Bears wished him well when the news was announced on Twitter:

The majority of supporters were disappointing by the content though, as they had been hoping for an announcement confirming the return of Ryan Kent.

It was reported by the Glasgow Evening Times earlier on Deadline Day that the Gers had agreed a £7million fee with Liverpool and that the finer details were being thrashed out.

Therefore, similarly to with the Jake Hastie announcement earlier in the afternoon, when a notification through, plenty were duped into thinking the moment many have been waiting for all summer, had finally arrived.

Here’s a selection of responses to the Dorrans announcement from the fans on tenterhooks awaiting an update on Kent:
