Former Rangers wonderkid told to consider La Liga move after Chelsea snub

Former Rangers star Kenny Miller thinks ex-Ibrox wonderkid Billy Gilmour should consider a move abroad after he was sent home from Chelsea’s training camp by manager Thomas Tuchel.

The midfielder was one of four players dismissed by Tuchel as Chelsea tour the USA and Gilmour is now widely expected to leave Stamford Bridge sooner rather than later.

Miller, who worked with Gilmour at Ibrox, is still in touch with the midfielder and thinks somewhere like Spain would be an ideal place for him to try to kickstart his career.

“Make no mistake about it, this kid is still a top, top footballer,” Miller said. “What’s really important for him is that he finds the right fit for him. If it’s not going to be at Chelsea, and it might not be.

“I spoke to him a few weeks ago about it just before he went back to pre-season and he was looking forward to going back and getting back with the squad and trying to force his way into it.

“It looks like it might not happen, getting sent home sounds a wee bit harsh but when you start to look at the squad maybe Thomas Tuchel thinks there are guys ahead of him at this moment. It doesn’t mean he can’t force his way back into it but it may be another loan deal for him.

“For me it’s really important it’s the right team for him and that might be in a different league. Maybe a Spain or somewhere where that technical game is maybe more suited to the way he plays.”

Gilmour’s next move vital for long-term career – Rangers would make ideal destination

What happens next for Gilmour could be the difference between a good career and a great career.

The Scotland star needs to make sure he doesn’t just jump at the first chance to leave Chelsea but picks a club that is going to give him the platform that he needs.

A return to Ibrox could provide just that and it would be fantastic to see him return to Ibrox this summer to make his mark.
