Crystal Palace eye move for teen star who left Rangers in 2021 for nothing - report

Former Rangers kid Malcolm Ebiowei could be set for a stunning move to Crystal Palace this summer after impressing for Derby in their fight against relegation from the Championship.

According to the Sun, Palace boss Patrick Viera has identified Ebiowei as a target this summer when his Derby contract ends after the teenager’s performances caught the eye.

Ebiowei, who left Ibrox to join the Rams last year and has made 14 Championship appearances, earning praise from Derby boss Wayne Rooney after breaking into the first-team at Pride Park.

Speaking earlier this season, Rooney said: “I thought he was excellent all game, best player on the pitch. It was one of the best performances I have seen from a young player, consistently for 90 minutes, in a long time.

“He deserved that because he has worked extremely hard. His attitude is incredible, he wants to learn and he is an exciting young player. I am delighted for him and his family because I know it means a lot for him.

“First of all his attitude is very good. He has got an enormous amount of ability, he is brave, he will take the ball, he is not afraid to take players on, to get tackled, to make mistakes. So he has got a really bright future.”

Ebiowei found it hard to get into the first-team picture at Ibrox before returning to England but it’s clear Rangers had a real talent on their hands.

A move to Palace and the Premier League would be a huge step up for the England youth international, with the Eagles looking to climb the league table next season.

If Ebiowei does move to Crystal Palace, he’ll be the latest in a host of former Rangers kids who have wound up at Premier League clubs in recent years, with the likes of Nathan Young-Coombes, Dire Mebude and Dapo Mebude all moving to England’s top-flight.
