In a boost for many Rangers fans, Nikola Katic reportedly has no interest in leaving Ibrox on loan despite speculation linking him with an exit [Glasgow Live].
The 24-year-old missed the entirety of last season due to a serious knee injury, spending the majority of the campaign back in his native Croatia recovering from procedures and doing rehab work.
He’s returned to Ibrox to find plenty of competition at centre-back, with Connor Goldson, Filip Helander, Leon Balogun, Jack Simpson, George Edmundson and Lewis Mayo all also under contract until at least the end of the coming season.
Earlier this week, it was reported that Serie A club Spezia were eyeing up a loan swoop for the 6ft 4″ stopper [Croatian Football News].
However, Glasgow Live reports that Katic has dismissed any chance of him leaving on loan and is instead determined to get himself back into the Rangers team.
While there would certainly be benefits to a short-term loan if he was guaranteed regular game time, it seems that the Croatian thinks he’s already missed out on enough at Ibrox and the update will be music to the ears of many Bears.
Katic has been a big fan favourite ever since his arrival from Slaven Belupo in the summer of 2018 and many supporters have been blown away by his work ethic and improved physique in recent times.
He was labelled a ‘tank’ by some fans while others have predicted that he will be like a ‘new signing’, so it will be a popular decision if he does opt to stay put.
The major concern at this stage is that although the centre-back should now have several weeks of training under his belt, he’s still yet to return to action, with only two pre-season fixtures remaining.
