Shrewsbury Town manager Sam Rickets has hailed Rangers midfielder Greg Docherty for his spell on loan with the League One side – and admits that the reception he received from fans was “thoroughly deserved.”

Docherty made his last appearance for Shrewsbury last weekend after 50 games for the Shropshire side during his season on loan.

Ricketts acknowledged that Doc doesn’t get everything right but his “enthusiasm to work hard” has made him a huge success.

“The ovation was thoroughly deserved. He’s a midfield player with 10 goals and 11 assists,” said Ricketts, as quoted by the Shropshire Star.

“He doesn’t get everything right, we all make mistakes. Sometimes he works too hard and runs out of position, but he gives his all.

“Every game he gives his all, he doesn’t leave anything behind.”

Docherty will return to Ibrox this summer hoping to fight for a place in Steven Gerrard’s squad and a Rangers future.

With a wealth of option available, the former Hamilton star might have to bide his time and go out on loan again next season.

At only 22, he’s got a massive future ahead of him but the timing of his move to Ibrox might just mean he has to wait for a chance to prove what he can do.
