Is Arfield's return the key to Rangers unlocking Osijek?

Scott Arfield’s return from injury could prove a welcome boost to Steven Gerrard and Rangers as they look to manage a tricky tie at Ibrox later tonight.

Holding a 1-0 lead from the first leg, Rangers squeezed out an impressive result in Croatia, but the tie is by no means over.

The team who finished fourth in the Croatian First Football League last season have been outspoken going into the tie, and fans are left with little doubt Rangers are going to have a fight on their hands. When it comes to offering that hard work and bite alongside guile and invention, there is arguably no one who offers this more from the Rangers midfield than Scott Arfield.

RONALDO NEEDS TO STOP WHINING.

The Canadian midfielder’s start at Rangers was hampered by injury in the first leg vs FK Shkupi in the last round, but in early matches Arfield showed flashes of the quality that saw him rack up over 100 English Premier League appearances.

The versatile midfielder can play anywhere across the midfield and is creative in tight spaces, keeping notoriously calm in possession. Never scared to get dug in, Arfield is a vocal team player who can held lead Rangers young midfield through what is going to be a difficult game in an expectant Ibrox. He’s also good for a spectacular goal.

His ability to pivot on the ball and kickstart counter attacks is something which could prove invaluable tonight, and being a left footed, multi-faceted midfielder, he is like nothing I can remember being at the club.

His role and performance this evening could make the difference in taking the Ibrox giants through to the next round and closer to the Europa League. Joining Rangers on a free, he could also prove to be the bargain of the season.
