Rangers should consider new Andy Halliday contract - Opinion

At a time when there are new arrivals aplenty at Ibrox, it’s worth considering which of the current crop the club needs to tie down for the long-term.
A stand out performance in last month’s Old Firm, suggests one diehard blue nose may be deserving of an extension.

After a tumultuous time under Caixinha which saw him shipped off to Gabala FK in Azerbaijan, he was given a fresh start under Gerrard.
Sure, frequent injuries to Borna Barisic have helped his cause. Yet, he has rarely disappointed when given an opportunity.
So much so, that he has now established himself as next in line at left-back, ahead of Jon Flanagan.

Against Celtic, Halliday showed his real worth, though.
More in terms of his character, than his footballing ability. Although, there was still plenty of that.
Right from the off, he was first to every ball. You could see how much it meant to him to pull on the jersey.
His current contract runs through to until May 2020, the end of next season.

Surely though, this is a guy who Rangers want at the club a lot longer than that.
At just 27, he has age on his side and a whole lot of passion left to put back in.
It wouldn’t be a bad incentive for others either, should he get an extension.
Such a decision would show that if you commit and work hard, rewards will come your way.
