There was a time in recent Rangers history when the Ibrox support had a penchant for a pitch invasion – and the Celtic fans and Scottish football wouldn’t let us live it down.

But in a dramatic turn of events, our Old Firm rivals have now found themselves facing the same accusations of tinpottery levelled at Rangers fans after a late winner against Ross County.

The Parkhead club’s squad is being tested to the limits but a team including eight internationals toiled to beat the Staggies, needing a late Fergie-time winner from Anthony Ralston to secure the points.

But as Ange Postecoglou’s team just about cling on in the title race, there was delirium in the stands as fans rushed on to the pitch, with some rowdier and more aggressive than others.

Rangers fans remember Celtic criticism of Ross County pitch invasion

Now, we’re not salty spoil sports and a pitch invasion or two has its place but when there’s a long line of tweets condemning Rangers fans for doing the same thing, it’s kind of ironic.

Rangers supporters will be the first to admit that their own pitch invasion at Ross County – or another at Partick Thistle – came at a challenging time for the club.

Perhaps it’s symbolic of Celtic’s demise as of late that these moments would be so exuberantly celebrated but Rangers fans have long memories and won’t let them forget it.

Ribbing their rivals on Twitter, supporters have been quick to point out Celtic fan reaction to a Rangers pitch invasion or two of yore:

As Celtic had a pitch invasion up in Dingwall Rangers fans were enjoying a comfortable 2-0 win over St Johnstone at Ibrox.

The Gers secured three points courtesy of strikes from Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent and maintain a four-point advantage in the Scottish Premiership.

One leading Ibrox star also dazzled in front of Rangers fans as their Parkhead counterparts had a pitch invasion up north.
