Joe Worrall came of age for Rangers today

Joe Worrall has come under a lot of criticism since his arrival at Rangers, from myself included.

Arriving from Nottingham Forest with a big reputation, he started competently in partnership with Connor Goldson.

However, his form took a dip thereafter, with poor distribution and lapses in concentration, consistently letting him down.

He fell out of favour and only returned to the side recently, due to an injury to Gareth McAuley.

Today, I was concerned that Celtic would isolate and expose the relatively inexperienced centre-back.

In reality, they did nothing of the sort.

The 6 ft 4′ defender put in a performance worthy of his physical stature, dominating the opposition’s attackers. He barely put a foot wrong across the 90 minutes.

For a 21-year-old, he showed decision-making under pressure that players many years his senior, would have been proud of.

He stepped out decisively at times in order to put pressure on the ball, but also dropped back to mop up bits and pieces as and when required.

Overall, his performance featured both intensity and precision. There wasn’t a hint of the lackadaisical approach that has drawn the frustration of the Gers fans on many occasions.

Today, finally, we saw why Forest boldly turned down a colossal £11.5 million offer from Burnley for his services last January.

The guy can really play.
