Ex-Celtic star launches Rangers player rant in predictably negative take

Former Celtic midfielder Peter Grant has won the first Rangers pot shot bingo of the season as he takes aim at Alfredo Morelos in an extraordinary rant.

Rangers fans are no stranger to their players being the subject of borderline offensive analysis from Scottish football’s cerebral assassins and Peter Grant gets the title of being the first Celtic-minded panelist to take aim this summer.

Ordinarily it’s intellectual powerhouses such as Chris Sutton, John Hartson or Kris Commons flexing their Mastermind-worthy knowledge of the Ibrox side’s inner workings but this time Grant has had a go with the Colombian.

Speaking amid high-profile links between Alfie, 26, and La Liga clubs such as Sevilla and Villarreal with the forward entering the final year of his deal, Grant reckons any potential exit wouldn’t be such a loss after all.

In fact, Peter Grant reckons that Alfredo Morelos is actually a “liability” and that he’s nothing but a Rangers let down.

Not only that, but the ex-Celtic star also believes that Antonio Colak is potentially being lined up as a replacement.

Peter Grant launches Alfredo Morelos Rangers rant

“People talk about Morelos going to Spain or whatever, but Rangers must be sick of it because it happens every year with him,” said Grant on the GO Radio Football Show.

“I’ve never been a big fan, last year was probably his best period in the European games,” said Peter Grant.

“Colak is a great age, by all accounts a good, mobile striker and I think he’s a little bit different from Morelos, so I’m sure Gio will know the players he wants to replace.

“We’ve said that before, before anybody goes out, you’re sure you want to have people lined up.

“He was excellent against Dortmund but I thought he was a liability prior to that in league matches and cup competitions back here, the bread and butter stuff.

“I never thought he was fit enough, there was always issues with him coming back from international duty with injuries and whatever.

“For me, I don’t think it will be as big a loss as people think for Rangers. I watch his goals, and if someone else comes in there, and they get that quality, they’ll get more of a team player.

“Let’s remember how many trophies he’s not won in the period of time that he’s been here.

“He’s won one competition he’s been involved in, so you need your strikers in there all the time scoring goals, especially if they’re at Celtic or Rangers, and I don’t think he’s capable of that.”

There we have it folks; the first ex-Celtic star’s negative Rangers hot take of the season.

If Rangers’ record European goal scorer does stick around next season, let’s hope he has Peter Grant eating his words.

Granted, there have been times when Alfredo Morelos has not pulled his weight, but describing him as a liability, and getting the trophy pot shot in too, is incendiary nonsense.

These guys are entitled to their opinions, but it’s up to the Rangers players to stick it to them on the pitch, instead of talking off it.

Besides, a high-profile Rangers flop may yet come to the rescue of Ibrox supporters who’re desperate to see their main man remain at the club.
