Neil McCann believes Rangers have found the defender who can get the most out of Connor Goldson after Ben Davies’ display at Hearts. The centre-back impressed in Wednesday’s win.

The Gers swept to a commanding 3-0 result at Tynecastle after goals by Alfredo Morelos (9’, 68’) and Malik Tillman (34’). Michael Beale saw his Ibrox natives put on a dominant show in Edinburgh all over the pitch. Their defence nullified Hearts’ best efforts to find any footing.

Also, Goldson helped contribute to Rangers’ goal tally after assisting Tilman to make it 2-0 at Hearts. The 30-year-old kept Borna Barisic’s cross alive at the back post after a short corner to find the on-loan Bayern Munich gem. He now has seven goals in 34 outings with the Gers.

Goldson almost contributed to a goal at the other end during the closing stages, as well. But referee John Beaton elected against pointing to the penalty spot after the ball hit his hand in the area. It would have been the only mark on the defender’s otherwise faultless scorecard.

Also, Davies enjoyed an impressive performance as Rangers shut Hearts out to win 3-0. The Tynecastle club rarely troubled the 27-year-old, who was assured with his efforts to play out from the back or clear his lines. He and Goldson also showed a key awareness of each other.

Davies impressed McCann with his work beside Goldson in Rangers’ win at Hearts

Hearts marked Davies’ 15th start through 17 Premiership appearances since joining Rangers from Liverpool. The 6ft enforcer switched Anfield for Ibrox last July for £4m with a four-year deal. He never featured for the Premier League side in any competition after joining in 2021.

But the Preston North End product impressed McCann with his form at Tynecastle. Now, the former Rangers and Hearts winger believes Beale has the defender who can get the best out of Goldson in Davies. He also feels the centre-half has started to come into his own at Ibrox.

“I think Ben Davies has been excellent on the left side of defence,” McCann said on BBC Sportsound. “He’s starting to look really comfortable. Goldson for so long has struggled to find a partnership he enjoys. Davies is starting to look the part.”
