Rangers captain James Tavernier has hailed Alfredo Morelos as speculation continues over the Colombian’s Ibrox future – with Tav lauding El Bufalo as a “great player” for Steven Gerrard’s side.
Morelos has been targeted by Lille but Tavernier hopes the Gers goal machine will stick around at Ibrox for longer – or at least until Thursday’s clash with Leverkusen is over.
With limited striking options available just now, losing Morelos would be a huge blow and Tavernier admits that is something that is above his level.
“Alfredo has been a great player I have played with over the past few years,” Tavernier said, as quoted by the Glasgow Times.
“He’s come on leaps and bounds with his goals and what he has contributed to the team and we hope we can keep him for that game.
“Obviously there is speculation with him you know about a transfer away from this place but that is the people above who deal with all that stuff.
“He has been a great asset for us.”
The Colombian has a phenomenal scoring record in the Europa League and, if he does leave, it would be a fantastic way to go out with a couple of goals in Germany.
Morelos hit six in six group games and is the joint-top goalscorer in the competition proper in the 2019/20 campaign.
Hopefully, he can add a few more to his tally and leave Rangers on a high, should a bid be accepted.
