The Light Blues have regularly played a 4-3-3 this season but Clarke believes that could change.
The addition of Defoe to the Gers’ squad now leaves Steven Gerrard with two quality strikers in Alfredo Morelos and Defoe.
Gerrard’s side travel to Rugby Park on Wednesday – and Clarke joked he’d sent a spy along to watch the Gers training.
“They have been pretty consistent this year playing 4-3-3,” Clarke said, as quoted by STV.
“Now, they have two top strikers they will probably look to change the system a little bit.
“But I have had my spy up the trees, cutting down fences and having a look so we’ll try and work out their formation before the game.”
The Light Blues started both Defoe and Morelos in the 3-2 win over HJK Helsinki, although neither got on the scoresheet.
After also adding Steve Davis, the Gers should be a more potent attacking force after the winter break.
The Light Blues are the second-highest scorers in the league and will want to make a statement against Killie.
The Rugby Park side are right on Rangers’ tail in the league table an a win would be massive for the Gers.
Gerrard’s side simply can’t afford to drop points in their quest to lift the title.
Adding Defoe will help them towards that and a change of shape seems likely.
Hopefully, Defoe can be just as prolific as Morelos and fire the Gers to 55.
