Scott McDonald gives verdict on Davis and Defoe signings

Former Celtic striker Scott McDonald thinks Rangers January signings Steve Davis and Jermain Defoe can help the Gers “hit the ground running” after the winter break.
The Gers have added Steve Davis and Jermain Defoe this month as they look to lift their first league title since 2011.

Steven Gerrard’s side are behind Celtic on goal difference and McDonald thinks they’ve made two impressive additions.
The Australian claimed that Davis is “underrated” and called the Northern Ireland captain an “exceptional footballer.”
“You have to look at the experience Rangers have brought in and say, who is going to hit the ground running and it would be Rangers, wouldn’t it?” McDonald told BT Sport.

“Steven Davis has been here and done it before. He is an exceptional footballer, probably underrated in a lot of aspects and obviously Jermain Defoe coming in and adding that quality in front of goal.”
With the Gers pushing Celtic all the way so far, Davis and Defoe could help Gerrard’s side that that next step.
Securing two experienced stars should give Gerrard’s side an edge they’ve lacked at times this season.

Davis’ experience at Ibrox previously is something that can help the midfielder make an immediate impact.
The Gers return to action on Friday night when they face Cowdenbeath in the Scottish Cup.

Davis and Defoe could debut against the Blue Brazil.
If they don’t, then it could come when the Gers welcome HJK Helsinki to Ibrox on Sunday in a friendly.
