Italian legend Roberto Donadoni insists that new Rangers signing Filip Helander will do “very well” – calling the Swedish international “truly exceptional.”
Donadoni took Helander to Bologna from Hellas Verona and admits he’s the sort of player every coach wants in their team.
The Italian insists that Helander has all the talent needed to be a success in Scotland – and thinks the defender is good enough to fill in anywhere in defence for Steven Gerrard’s side.
“I’m sure Filip will do very well in Scotland. Having been his coach for two seasons at Bologna, I can say without fear of contradiction that he is a truly exceptional boy,” Donadoni told the Sunday Post, as quoted by Football Scotland.
“He is very serious about being a footballer, an exemplary professional who always aims to improve.
“Filip is one of those players all coaches would like to have in their team. Certainly, I would.
“From a technical and tactical perspective, we are talking about a strong, tall, left-footed defender who is very good in central defence.
“Yet he also has the flexibility to play in any other position in the back-line.”
Helander could make his first appearance for the Gers in this afternoon’s friendly with Marseille after penning a four-year deal at Ibrox.
The Swede’s signing represents a hefty outlay for the Gers and fans will be expecting him to make a big impact.
