Rangers expect to do “little to nothing” in this month’s transfer window, according to Scottish journalist Andy Newport, as claims the club were interested in signing Preston’s Ben Davies and Airdrie’s Thomas Robert were dismissed.
The Gers had reportedly made an offer to bring Davies to Ibrox at the end of the season when his Deepdale contract ended but Newport reported on Twitter that isn’t the case.
Football Insider claimed that Rangers have offered Davies a ‘significant’ deal to move to Glasgow with Celtic also claimed to be keen on signing the 25-year-old.
Davies has rejected a new deal and PNE boss Alex Neil hinted recently that he’ll have to sign replacements quickly for Davies and team-mate Ben Pearson just in case they do end up moving this month.
Newport also stated that Rangers won’t be making a move for Airdrie starlet Thomas Robert, with the Frenchman likely to stay with the Diamonds until the end of the season.
Thomas has impressed for Airdrie in spells this season but has shown nowhere near enough to be considered a realistic target for Rangers.
The news the club doesn’t expect to do much this month isn’t a surprise and the arrival of Scott Wright before the deadline rather than in the summer seems to be the only realistic chance of anyone coming to the club.
While there doesn’t look to be many incoming this month, Rangers could trigger a contract extension for one Ibrox star by the season’s end.
