Nottingham Forest legend Colin Barrett believes that Joe Worrall’s season-long loan with Rangers has helped turn him into a defender who deserves a place in the Forest side.
Worrall has played every minute of league football for Sabri Lamouchi’s side so far this season and the much-maligned defender has become a key part of the side at the City Ground.
Barrett thinks the experience Worrall gained playing in Old Firm ties and Europa League clashes for the Gers has brought the defender’s game on massively.
“You look at Worrall and he’s a big lad. When balls have come into the box he heads or blocks absolutely everything,” Barrett told Seat Pitch.
“He’s played a good few games at Rangers and he now appears to be up to scratch with the standard required to play regularly in the Championship.
“Defenders first and foremost need to be able to defend and I think Worrall is now more experienced when it comes to being able to do that.”
Worrall made 32 appearances for the Gers last season but never really won over fans after a number of errors cost the Light Blues – as well as the fact he was keeping Niko Katic out the team.
Since returning to Forest, he appears to be much more confident in himself and it is being reflected in his performances for Lamouchi’s side.
Playing for Rangers comes with huge pressures and after coming through a season at Ibrox, Worrall should be fine with whatever the Championship throws at him.
