Rangers are on the brink of winning the title for the first time in a decade following the win over Dundee United on Saturday – and the three points have ensured the Light Blues will be playing in the Champions League next season.
The Gers are now guaranteed a top-two finish and, after impressing in the Europa League in recent seasons, now have the chance to mix it with Europe’s elite again.
Winning the league will see Steven Gerrard’s side enter at the third qualifying round, leaving two rounds to get through before a place in the group stage is sealed.
If the Gers can do that though, it will see the Gers land over €15million just for qualifying and give a hefty boost to the coffers at Ibrox.
Entering at the third qualifying round also means that Steven Gerrard’s players will get a longer pre-season than in previous seasons, the first game involving the Light Blues not falling until August 3/4.
While it is obviously a bit early to be looking ahead to the Champions League, it is something that fans who are old enough to remember past Champions League nights will have been keenly waiting to return.
The glitz and glamour of the group stage is still not quite in reach but with the Gers impressing again in Europe this season, you wouldn’t bet against hearing UEFA’s version of Zadok The Priest ringing out at Ibrox in just over six months.
