Rangers veteran tipped for individual glory after helping Gers to 55

Ibrox legend Peter Lovenkrands has been blown away with the Light Blues’ performances this season as they’ve romped to 55 – and the Dane thinks three Gers stars should be in the running for Player of the Year at the end of the season.

The Light Blues sit five games away from ending the Premiership season unbeaten and resume their Scottish Cup campaign this weekend when they host Cove Rangers at Ibrox.

Lovenkrands has been really impressed by his old side, picking three Gers players who have impressed this season – but singling out one of his former Gers team-mates as the one who has been head and shoulders above the rest.

“Rangers have been fantastic. James Tavernier has been phenomenal and you can see he has been missed recently, especially going forward,” Lovenkrands said [Daily Record].

“But for me Allan McGregor tops the lot. What he has done this season at his age – and he’ll kill me for saying that – has been phenomenal. Huge saves at important moments.

“It would be great to see him get another chance to lift the Scottish Cup.”

The 39-year-old McGregor has defied his years countless times this season to save the Gers and with his contract up this summer, we could be watching the final handful of appearances he makes for the club.

With the Gers having wrapped up the title and chasing a Scottish Cup double, ending the season with an individual award on top of two trophies would be the perfect chance to ride off into the sunset.

Meanwhile, Rangers are reportedly scouting a 27-goal striker with a view to a potential summer swoop.
