Rangers have been drawn to face Premier League side Wolves in the upcoming Hong Kong Soccer Sevens tournament as the Gers look to go one better than last year and lift the trophy.

The Ibrox side lost to Newcastle United in extra-time of last year’s final after impressing throughout the competition.

Hong Kong FC and HKFA Red Dragons round out the Gers’ group in the 20th-anniversary edition of the prestigious tournament.

Six-time champions Aston Villa, two-time winners Leicester City are among some of the other sides also taking part next month.

Last year’s Rangers side included Jamie Barjonas, Stephen Kelly, Liam Burt, Kyle Bradley and Jordan Houston.

 

The squad for this year’s trip hasn’t been confirmed yet but many of those who got so close to lifting the trophy last year could travel to Asia again this year.

Other young talent such as Nathan Young-Coombes or Josh McPake could also be part of the group heading for Hong Kong between May 17th and 19th.

The Gers have never won the tournament but have finished as runners up on three occasions 2009, 2010 and 2018 and regularly have a team of former players taking part in the Masters tournament that runs alongside the main competition.
