Rangers fans are praising Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic for another top defensive display in Europe.
The classy duo put in another incredible shift to see nine-man Rangers through to the Europa League group stages. A 1-1 draw in Russia not only got Rangers through, but also kept their unbeaten run under Steven Gerrard alive.
Alfredo Morelos and Jon Flanagan were guilty of two red cards to put their side up against it. Gerrard’s men had to defend as deep as they have done this season against swathes of Ufa attacks.
But it was the combination of both Goldson and Flanagan that ensured Rangers got through to the groups.
Supporters were quick to give their reaction to the display, and took to Twitter to voice their views. Here’s the best of the reaction below:
MORE RANGERS STORIES
The win over the Russian outfit means that Rangers have qualified for European group stage competition for the first time since 2010. That was under Walter Smith in the Champions League.
There is no doubt that the best Rangers sides in history have been built on solid defences. This is exactly what they have in their two new summer signings.
This isn’t the first time fans have lined up on social media to praise the dominating duo. Both have been receiving rave reviews since the beginning of the season.
It remains to be seen now how Rangers build on this terrific achievement. A massive match against Celtic this weekend will go a long way to proving how far Rangers have come. With just one win in three Premiership games, the Gers could do with three vital points against their rivals.
Victory at Parkhead would be sensational for this new Gers side. However, if they are to do it then it’ll have to be built on a solid defensive platform.
In Goldson and Katic, they now have just that.
