Rangers striker Kemar Roofe is out of tomorrow’s Europa League clash with Willem II after he was removed from Steven Gerrard’s squad and replaced by Leon Balogun.

The Ibrox star was originally named in the squad for the third qualifying round tie but the calf injury picked up in the last round has now seen him replaced.

Roofe’s calf injury saw him miss the weekend draw with Hibs as Gerrard confirmed he needed a scan but there was some hope among fans that it wasn’t too bad after he was named in the initial 21-man A list.

The former Leeds and Anderlecht star’s absence will now almost certainly mean a start for Alfredo Morelos in the Koning Willem II Stadion is Tilburg.

Balogun’s addition to the squad will give Gerrard a different option in defence and the Nigerian international could come back into the side for the first time since the win over St. Johnstone last month.

The defender was yesterday named in the Nigeria squad for the upcoming matches against Ivory Coast and Tunisia and has impressed since arriving at Ibrox earlier this summer.

After being an unused substitute at Easter Road on Sunday, Balogun could come back into Rangers’ starting XI against Willem II, although it seems more likely that Connor Goldson and Fil Helander start again.
