Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos is one of four players shortlisted for this year’s Scottish Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year award.
The Colombian joins Odsonne Edouard, Callum McGregor and Lawrence Shankland on the shortlist after a blistering season in front of goal saw him net 29 times.
Morelos’ form before the winter break saw him become the first player to score 14 goals in the Europa League before Christmas as well as the most goals for a Scottish club in a European campaign.
Despite that, his performances after the winter break suffered a serious dip and El Buffalo only managed one goal after the club returned from the mid-season break.
Parkhead pair Edouard and McGregor played key roles for Neil Lennon’s side as they were awarded the Scottish Premiership title after a ballot while Shankland’s goals helped fire Dundee United back to the top-flight after struggling to get out of the Championship.
Morelos is the only Rangers nomination in the awards with manager Steven Gerrard snubbed in the Manager of the Year award in favour of Lennon, Livingston boss Gary Holt, Stephen Robinson of Motherwell and Arbroath’s veteran gaffer Dick Campbell.
Allan Campbell (Motherwell), Lewis Ferguson (Aberdeen), Aaron Hickey (Hearts) and Ali McCann (St Johnstone) make up the four-man shortlist for the Young Player of the Year award.
