Reported Rangers target Greg Stewart had a fantastic chance to show what he can do in this afternoon’s Scottish Cup semi-final between Aberdeen and Celtic but the on-loan Birmingham City forward had an afternoon to forget at Hampden.

According to The Express, Steven Gerrard’s side are closing in on a pre-contract with Stewart but the 29-year-old will be hoping that the Rangers boss had his attention elsewhere as the Dons put in a woeful performance to hand Celtic an easy passage into next month’s final against Hearts.

Stewart lasted 69 minutes before being hooked by Derek McInnes after starting in a wide position before moving central later on, although he offered little from either area.

After impressing in the first half of the season with Kilmarnock, Stewart joined Aberdeen in January as he runs down the final months of his Birmingham contract.

Since returning to Pittodrie though, things haven’t really worked out well for Stewart with the 29-year-old only scoring once since January.

Some Rangers fans were not impressed at the idea of the Gers moving to sign Stewart this summer after watching his performance at the national stadium.
