The Scottish FA has confirmed today that Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos was booked after the final whistle of last month’s Old Firm triumph at Celtic Park over his “gesture” to Celtic fans which has sparked a meltdown across the city.

The Colombian was shown a third yellow card of the afternoon after full-time by bungling referee Kevin Clancy, killing off any hope Celtic fans have that the striker could be hauled before a Scottish FA disciplinary tribunal.

Morelos picked up two yellows during the game, leading to a two-match suspension and now sits one booking away from a further ban once he returns to action.

Despite the game taking place almost three weeks ago, it’s a bit odd that it has taken this long for news of his third booking to come out – and Rangers were that unhappy with Clancy’s performance that the club reiterated calls for the introduction of VAR to the Scottish game.

With confirmation that Morelos was booked for the third time, it will likely spark a new wave of wailing and hand-wringing from the east end of Glasgow.
